steins gate. time travel is difficult to do right. coming up with a new way to present time travel in a sea of bad examples really made me fall in love.
monster is a close second. the characterization alone is enough to make me love it.

Princess Mononoke.  Miyazaki does wonderful work and it's a beautiful story about how the progress and greed of mankind ultimately destroys the mysticism and wonder of the ancient world; both literally and figuratively.
